The Show
1971 is a two and a half hour, non-stop marathon of incredible music from this landmark year performed by some of Nashville’s most talented musicians and singers. The 15+ member band brings together seasoned players who have spent years touring with, or as members of, some of America’s greatest acts. The show features a multi-media component that projects images of the artists as well as cultural events that influenced much of the music from this amazing year. The repertoire is a genre-busting collection of hits and deep cuts that made 1971 a year that stands alone in it’s impact, even today.
THE MUSIC
In the beginning we knew we wanted to create a show based on a year in pop music rather than a single artist or album. Picking the year promised to be a tough choice, but we quickly realized that 1971 stood out with its wide range of artists, songs, and styles. Whether it was ground breaking emerging artists, one hit wonders, or iconic super groups at the top of their game, 71 was truly a year like no other. It was, in our view, The Greatest Year In Music.
The list of great artists and songs available to us was vast! How did we decide on a set list? Did we pick the iconic hits, or did we mine the cool deep cuts that were played on the popular AOR (Album Oriented Radio) radio format of the day? Should we play them faithfully as recorded? Or, do our own interpretations as great songs often invite. The answer is all of the above and the result is an unforgettable evening of fantastic music played by one of the most talented bands in Music City.
